Questions
What is a full-cast recording?
Every character who speaks has their own voice, and a narrator reads everything else, so you always know who’s talking.
Do I need an account to try it?
No. The first chapter of Pride and Prejudice plays for anyone. Sign in free with your email and you can hear the first chapter of every book, with your place kept across the web and the apps.
How do I sign in?
With your email address. We send a six-digit code, and there are no passwords.
Can I pay once instead of subscribing?
Yes. Pay for a month (or several) or a year up front with a debit or credit card, and it simply runs out. Nothing renews unless you choose a subscription.
Can I cancel?
Yes, any time, from this page. You keep every day you’ve already paid for.
What if I have free months and a subscription?
Your free or prepaid months are always used first. Your subscription only charges again once they’ve run out.
How do referrals work?
Once you’ve paid for a membership you get a code to share. When a friend uses it and buys at least a month, you both get two months free, as many times as you like.
I heard a line that sounds wrong. What do I do?
Press the flag in the player while you’re listening, or just after. You don’t need to pin down the exact line: we look at the lines around that moment. If we re-record any of them, everyone who flagged it gets a free month.
Do the recordings change after I’ve heard them?
For the better. We keep refining every book: re-recording lines that could be performed better and improving voices as our casting improves. You always hear the latest version, with nothing to download.
Are the books really public domain?
Yes. The texts are free for anyone to use. What membership pays for is the recordings: the casting, the attribution of every line and the performances.
